A new mysteriously playful and orientally colorful ballet for children “Aladdin” is set to the music of the famous Ukrainian composer Oleksandr Rodin. The ballet will be staged at the Kaunas Music Theater by the same team of Ukrainian artists who have already realized this project at the Kyiv Opera House in 2021, but the performance of the performance was interrupted when the war broke out in Ukraine. The ballet master Serhiy Kon himself wrote the libretto based on the fairy tale from the book “One Thousand and One Nights” and its variants in famous movies.
The source of inspiration for the ballet “Aladdin” was the classic of medieval Arab and Persian literature “The Book of One Thousand and One Nights”, the plots of famous films and animations based on oriental fairy tales. Miracles and magic bring a sense of fun surprise to everyday life. The plot of the oriental tale of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp has fascinated many generations of people because it contains important moral and ethical themes: the victory of good over evil, the superiority of purity of heart, thoughts and deeds over cunning, hypocrisy, the desire for power and profit. In the center of the ballet is the story of the fates of Aladdin and Genie, who live in different worlds, the charming Jasmina, who is chained to the lamp, Jafar, who dreams of taking the place of the sultan, and who aspires to become the ruler of the world.
The performance aims to emphasize the value of personality: if you are yourself, incredible miracles will become reality. The new ballet is created based on a combination of classical and modern choreography, supplemented with various styles and techniques, decorated with elements of oriental dances.
“I hope that the ballet will interest children and form their colorful worldview, and allow adults to enjoy and immerse themselves in the world of fairy tales and miracles,” says ballet master Serhiy Kon.
Research on the children’s audience shows that the little ones miss familiar characters from fairy tales or cartoons, intriguing and fantastic stories, and good, easy-to-remember music on stage. Therefore, bright music with a wide spectrum of moods, radiating goodness and warmth, a colorful spectacle and dance will be a great attraction for children and meet the expectations of young theatergoers.
Dance theater and ballet artists are invited.
